NaNoWriMo… Yerg?

I’m a writer. That means I know that this month is the patron saint of writers. If you’re a writer and don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, do yourself a favor and Google it. Don’t worry. I’ll wait.

So. Now you know. I understand why it’s so important to so many of my fellow writers. Too many, unlike myself, are burdened by outside jobs that are not anywhere near their passion. And so they need motivation to spend time writing. I get that. I’m just wondering, are there any other writers beside myself who don’t do NaNoWriMo?
If you’re out there, please post and tell me why you don’t participate?
As for myself, I am always too busy with other manuscripts to start something new every November.

  1. I have not done NaNoWriMo, because I haven’t needed the push. Generally, Novembers find me in the middle of a project and I’d have to stop that to take part in NaNoWriMo. Still, the event has helped a lot of writers who did need the push.

Further, I believe it’s raised the profile of writing generally. People see it’s something anyone can do, not exclusively for geniuses with a glass of whiskey in their other hand. So no yerg on this end.

  2. That has been my experience too, Deby. I’m not against it at all. I just don’t do it, myself.

My daughter recently found out about it, and I’m all about encouraging her. Especially since she’s always juggling a ton of ideas and struggles with finishing them.
